A wonderful large Edwardian silver Art Nouveau dressing table tray, embossed with outstanding floral decoration.

The border consists of a series of embossed interconnecting scrolls. The inner part of the tray is beautifully embossed with leaves and flowers.

This is a marvellous example of the bold Art Nouveau movement of the period. This tray was designed to lay on a dressing table to hold pins, perfume bottles and brushes.

'Art Nouveau' is the name given to a style of decoration that was born in Paris in the 1880s and was popular throughout Europe for more than twenty years. It grew from a revolt against the rigid designs of mass- production, and featured fre-flowing curving lines with natural patterns such as intertwining flowers, scrolls and butterflies. Eventually its extravagance led to its own demise during the First World War.
