George III Hourglass Pattern Silver Soup Ladle

George III Hourglass Pattern Silver Soup Ladle

Price: £525$830€630

Stock number: AS226

A very good George III Hourglass pattern silver soup ladle.

It has a long, bowed handle with a wavy thread border with a shell and an hourglass motif. The ladle is engraved with a small contemporary lion rampant crest. The bowl is oval.

This is an attractive design, with a similar shape to Kings, but with that distinctive hourglass device below the shell. It originated in eighteenth century French flatware, and is very popular among collectors today. It has been made in a very heavy gauge of silver -- it is a terrific weight.

This superb George III Hourglass pattern silver soup ladle was made in 1814 by Thomas Barker of 6 Kirby Street, Hatton Garden, London.
Length: 13 1/2 inches (34 cm)
Weight: 9 oz (280 g)
