A very good set of four late Victorian silver Apostle
Spoons.
Apostle Spoons were first made in
England at the start of the sixteenth century. Each had a
cast figure of one of the Twelve Apostles, with a
thirteenth spoon [The Master Spoon] representing Christ.
These heavy reproductions feature an oval
bowl (gilded inside), a flat handle and the figure of St.
Luke at the top, with a bird seal on the top of his hat.
In the original fitted case, they would make a
perfect christening gift.
Made in 1896 by George
Jackson of London. Length: 8 inches (20 cm)
