A fine five-piece Victorian silver tea and coffee service,
comprising a kettle with burner on a stand, teapot, coffee
pot, sugar bowl and cream jug.
Each piece is round
and bellied, decorated with fluting.
The teapot,
coffee pot and kettle each have ivory insulators to prevent
the handles from getting hot when filled.
The
sugar bowl and cream jug are gilded (gold-washed) inside.
The kettle has a separate triangular stand.
Each piece is engraved with the crest and motto of
the Middleton family of Scotland.
Made in 1883/3
by Hunt and Roskell of London -- the firm previously headed
by the great English silversmith, Paul Storr [the
triangular kettle stand made in 1871 by the same makers].
