George III Silver Candlestick with Old Sheffield Plate Branches

A fine George III silver candlestick.

It is round, with a fluted base decorated with flowers and a bead mount. It has a tapered fluted column.

The detachable curled branches are made of Old Sheffield Plate, and fits into the top of the candlestick. There are three detachable nozzles; two have silver hallmarks, the third does not and is made of Old Sheffield Plate.

It's not unusual to have a silver candlestick with Old Sheffield Plate branches. Sometimes the branches were added later; or maybe it was just to save money! They are a very good match together, and the whole piece would look very good in the centre of the table.

This attractive George II silver candlestick with Old Sheffield Plate branches was made in 1775 by John Parsons & Co.

  • Height to top of nozzles of branches: 17 inches (43 cm)
  • Span of branches: 15 3/4 inches (40 cm)
  • Height of candlestick without branches: 12 inches (30.5 cm)
  • Diameter of base: 5 1/4 inches (13.3 cm)
