Pair of George III Cut-Corner Silver Candlesticks
A good pair of George III cut-corner silver candlesticks.
Each has an oblong base with cut corners and a thread border. The tops of the bases and edges of the columns are inlaid with long simple leaves. The nozzles (bobaches) are detachable. The candlesticks are filled, and have turned wooden bases underneath.
The candlesticks are a very pretty design - simple, with minimal leaf decoration. They are filled and not cast, but the wooden bases underneath are very attractive. Their condition is good, with some pitting on the bases and columns, but no more than you would expect from anything of that period. They are correctly, and very clearly hallmarked, on both bases and both nozzles (bobaches).
This pair of George III cut-corner silver candlesticks was made in 1791 by John Parsons & Co.
