Pair of Pierced Silver Wine Coasters

An excellent pair of silver wine coasters.

They are round with a bead mount at the top and bottom.  The bodies are slat-pierced with swags of leaves over five round pierced motifs.  The sixth motif is simply a blank round cartouche for engraving a crest or initials.  They feature flat wooden bases, each with a small ivorine central disc.  They are baised underneath.

The coasters are a very good weight. Each is hallmarked on the lower edge.  Wine coasters (also known as decanter stands) were baised underneath so that they could be 'coasted' around the wooden table. This pair are large enough to take magnum bottles.

This very attractive pair of silver wine coasters was made in 1986 by William Hutton & Sons of London.
