Pair of Victorian Fiddle, Thread & Shell Pattern Silver Long Serving Spoons

A very good pair of Victorian silver long serving spoons.

They are in the highly regarded Fiddle, Thread & Shell pattern, with fiddle-shaped handles, a simple thread around the borders and a shell at the end.

We are selling these as a pair even though they were made three years apart. How come? The answer is that the first spoon was made when the company was owned by Mary Chawner; the second when she had taken on her son-in-law, George Adams, as a partner. Each is hallmarked with a different maker's mark, but when you put them tgogether, it is clear that they have come from the same set of lead dies. They are a marvellous weight.

The first spoon was made in 1838 by Mary Chawner of London; the second in 1841 by her son-in-law, George Adams.
