Victorian Silver Cake Basket

A very attractive round Victorian silver cake basket.

The body is lobed, and engraved with scrolls and flowers. The applied border is cast, and formed from shells and scrolls.  It has a lovely swing handle which is fluted and decorated with flowers and leaves; and there is a small crest engraved at the top of the handle.

It stands on a plain, shaped six-sided pedestal base.

Although originally made as a basket for cake or bread, today it would look marvellous when used for fruit in the centre of the table.

This pretty round Victorian silver cake basket was made in 1847 by Robinson, Edkins and Aston of Birmingham.
